Show SAY CONTEST IS PDPULARWtTH PUPILS Reasons for Entering War .-JBeing Discussed in High School Classrooms. Students of the Salt Jake- high and Junior high schools have entered into The Tribune essay contest with an en-husiasm en-husiasm and determination that is expected ex-pected to bring forth hundreds of interesting inter-esting and valuable, manuscripts on the subject, "Why the United States Is at War," according to "Ernest A. Smith, city superintendent of schools, Inst night. Over 100 students of the Bryant junior high school have signified their intention inten-tion of entering the contest. Every available patriotic . iterance has been brought before the students for consideration, with the result re-sult that already the young patriots are shaping opinions, backed by first-hand knowledge, regarding the standing of the United States. The subject has become very popular. Small groups of children gather every day at noon and recess on the play ground to debate the different aspects .-.j, y-f the question and carry into class - , rcoras the results of their day's findings. find-ings. These young political debaters have collected volumes of facts to elucidate eluci-date the question in hand, and have made their classes scenes' comparable with the house of representatives or the senate. During the past week hundreds of students stu-dents have flocked to The Tribune office and the editorial rooms for information f to help them in their manuscripts. rJAll manuscripts should be in The Tribune's Trib-une's school essay contest department before midnight of October 27. 1 The Tribune office has had several hundred copies of pamphlets designed to aid the prospective contestants in their efforts, but the demand on the office was ro great yesterday that the supply was entirely depleted. Every effort, however, Ms being put forth to secure another col-'-'t?ection of patriotic articles for the high school students, and as soon as these are secured the high schools will be notified. |
