Show GERMAN WRITER AND ARTIST INTERNED XKW YORK, Dec. fi. Otto Julius Mar-kel, Mar-kel, a German writer and lecturer, and Hans Stengel, an artist and cartoonist, were interned as dwngerous enemy aliens on Kllis Island tonight on the orders of John C. Knox, assistant United States district attorney. Stengel was connected with the German publication, "The Zeppelin," Zep-pelin," the name of which was changed to "Eulen Spiegel" when the United States entered the war. Under one of his cartoons was the statement: "The fact that 71 per cent of the dra fted men claimed exemption shows how beautiful is the war enthusiasm of tiie great American people." |
