| Show CONVICTED she abducted miss of lichi nellie davia was convicted on the charge of abducting edith karren in the trial yesterday a number of the fast girls of franklin alenne fie to seeing edith at different times in the morning when she was confined in the room one paid edith told her that ehe had knocked on a number of the doors before let into a house mrs davia the defendant then took the stand and testified that she first saw edith karren on tho morning of november when the girl entered her house on franklin avenue edith said she was looking for a girl whom the the witness knew lived at blakes edith then wanted to see the lady of the house at mrs davias and stated that she came from califor nia and had babeu living with a man at provo the girl also said ehe bad been working but had lost her position she insisted upon seeing the woman of the bouse and the defendant awoke her daughter and let edith into her room she said she wae 17 years old and the witness told her she was too young to be in such a place mrs davis further testified that she keota blardine bo ardine ahouee and had nothing to do with her daughters resort at the conclusion of mrs lagiss lay iss examination mr armstrong announced that he would reet and witnesses were called by judge howat in rebuttal edith karren denied that she had never been on franklin avenue prior 10 the morning of Novem bei when ale was met by Mrs Davia she aleo denied everything else that had been testified against her bv the witnesses for the defense mrs eliza moffit it testified that edith karren worked for her ten days but she sea her but once as she the wit ness was sick in bed liaa daisy moffat testified that editha conduct waa good while she worked for them the girl was there about noon on november after which she went uptown while she worked there she was never out at at this time both sides rested and the case was argued by chancil co ancil the case reached the jury shortly after noon and thirty minutes later they returned a verdict of guilty |
