Show GEHI IS OPEN miY YEARS J. L. . Bruce and Hayden- Stone Interests Secure Control. The Hayden-Stone interests and others in close touch with them have secured an option on the German !a f"oup of claims, lying in the southwest district, from James Murray, and are making ar-, ar-, rangementa for their immediate development, develop-ment, says the Anaconda Standard. The Germania is one of the famous old silver mines and in the 'SOs and early '90s, when silver was one of Butte's big products, prod-ucts, it produced a large amount of the white metal. When silver was demonetized and the ' silver market flattened out the Germania closed down, along with many other silver sil-ver mine in Butte, and it has been down fiver slncf. A few weeks ago an option was secured on the property and J. L,. Bruce, manager man-ager of the Butte & Superior company, made an investigation and recommended to Hayden, Stone &- Co. and others who an laj-srely interested in Butte & Superior t.at the option be taken over and the property developed. There has been some delay on account of V e labor troupes, but with the gradual bettering of the conditions con-ditions in Butte the plans are being matured ma-tured for the rapid development of the property. The group consists of nine claim? or fractions of claims and it lies just west of the Britannia mine, which is being developed de-veloped by W. L. Creden. In addition to the silver possibilities, the ores carry good values in zinc and the surface developments show large quantities of high-grade manganese ores, which are just now in great demand. The Germania has a shaft 400 feet deep, with extensive drifts run from the stations sta-tions on the 100, 200 and 300-foot levels. There are more than 1000 feet of drifts and these run to the bodies of ore from which the silver was taken in former years. There are two shafts, an east and a west shaft, on the Germania claim and a number of other shafts on the property. The Germania is full of water and the first work will be to unwater that. This work will probably take until October 1, by which time it is planned to make a i " thorough examination of the underground ! conditions and determine on what to do ; in the matter of sinking the shaft and ! opening the lower levels. The collar of the shaft has already been retimbered and Mr. Bruce, who has charge of the operations, is getting the machinery machine-ry together needed for un watering the i shaft. 1 Old records of the Germania show that , it has a very larg vein of ore running i in:o hisrh values in silver and alo large i amounts of high-grade zinc ore. which, at ! present prices of spelter, will make it one of the big mines of the district. The j option on tile property is in the name of , J. I ... Bruce, trustee, and it is probable i that a new rompany will be incorporated to carry on the minine operations as soon the preliminary development work 1b I completed. |
