Show SNiMIDE DESTROYS B AM B ERGERC QTT A G E Summer Home, Built Chiefly Chief-ly of Logs, Swept by Big Avalanche. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN, Feb. 23. Damage estimated at several hundred dollars resulted in Ogden canyon today when another terrific ter-rific snowslide near ldlewild swept the summer home of Governor Simon Bamberger Bam-berger into the Ogden river. The water, wa-ter, after cutting a channel beneath the mass of snow, floated the wrecked cottage partially onto the wagon road. There is said to be danger of the cottage cot-tage being entirely broken up and floated down stream. Owing to the fact that there are few persons in the canyon at this season of the year and virtually no traffic through the gorge, it was impossible tonight to-night to obtain details coucerniag the actual damage. The governor's cottage, which was built almost entirely of logs, was a large structure containing several rooms. It was situated on the south bank of the river a short distance west of the ldlewild resort. According to the information received re-ceived this afternoon by County Commissioner Com-missioner Moroni Skeen, the slide occurred oc-curred at virtually the same spot where the electric line 'of the Ogden, Logan & Idaho Railway company was blocked for several days last winter. A slide there several davs ago temporarily blocked the line, but traffic, has been maintained until today by transferring passengers. The avalanche of snow and earth which came down today is said to have covered the railroad track for more than 20O feet, filled the river bed and blocked the wagon road. |
