Show ONE WAY TO REARM Those who heard the talk given by Julian Thomas at Bingham high school Monday evening were impressed by the picture he painted paint-ed of a country under nazi occupation and by the warning he voiced to Americans "It may happen here". Because he is an American, because he has had the experience of over twenty years residence in France and is obviously a scholar of European developments, Mr. Thomas' opinions are of general interest. Listening lo his warning thai Americans must rouse and arm sufficiently lo meet any emergency reminded of the words of an American journalisl who wrote "The American eagle may become an ostrich if he chooses, but he will not thereby escape the storm." Germany has been frank in stating and restating that their na-tionul na-tionul socialism is bent on pitting "blood against gold"; and is a "fight against decadent democracy". The nazi plan for a new world order is based on national and international socialistic planning and a "peace" guaranteed by German arms. This they have reiterated repeatedly. Mr, Thomas says he firmly believes the nazis have their eye on America as the 'next step'. A rebirth of the American spirit of our forefathers is needed as a part of our national rearmament Those who heard Mr. Thomas appreciate that an understanding of the state of h nation that has lost its freedom can help us evaluate the worth of our own democracy. |
