Show why she beads the last chapter r first I 1 it of course I 1 always read the last chap ahal ter of a novel first admitted a young woman land and I 1 think it a very sensible e plan but I 1 read such books in two different ways 1 I confess I 1 read corns i trash when I 1 get a novel that I 1 consider in this class I 1 read the last chapter cli aptel first then I 1 read the next nest to tho the last chapter and so on until I 1 finish the first chapter I 1 find that the only way in which to enjoy such books if I 1 read it straight raight et through from the beginning I 1 would never bo be in doubt as to the ending I 1 havo have read so BO much of this light literature that I 1 can always tell pretty well 0 on reading the first chapter or two what the outcome of it will be on the other hand if I 1 begin at the end my curiosity is ia aroused to a lively pitch hero here I 1 have the unraveling of I 1 misunderstandings and the restoration I 1 to happiness of all the worthy people in in the book but I 1 cannot tell how the doubts and differences came about ono can anticipate tho the close of such a novel near its beginning but not its beginning near its close so I 1 read the chapters in reversed order with continued pleasure new york tribune I 1 |
