STARTING with the official head of the state, by yelling, Governor Bamberger a J-iberty bond, the boy sooutB of Utah arc commencing a drive today that is expected to yield thousands of dollars in subscriptions subscrip-tions lo tho second Liberty loan. The scout who secured, the governor's subscription was Gordon Affleck, Troop G. Twenty-first ward. In order. to gt It. ho followed the governor to a meeting of the board of pardons at the state prison Saturday. He sent, in word that he wished to speaJt to Governor Bamberger, who immediately turned the meeting over to Chief Justice J. E. Flick. As the governor stepped out of the board room he was met by the young scout, who formally saluted him and then briefly explained his message. The governor gov-ernor was quick to respond with a check and received in turn the scout's special receipt. Governor Bamberger then wished him and all the other scouts success suc-cess in their drive. Two other scouts approached Heber J. Grant at the scout rally Saturday night and in a businesslike manner requested permission to call at his office today and sell him a bond. Mr. Grant told them cordially that, although he had made his subscription, he- would gladly add to it two more bonds If they would see him at his office as they suggested, i The scouts' campaign Is part of a nation-wide drive in which nearly 300,000 boys will work to secure Liberty bond subscriptions. They hope to raise at least $25,000,000. |
