What might have been one of the most disastrous fires in the history oC Eureka hroke out Lhis morning at 5:30 in the building of the Tinti-j Meat company on Main street. The fire was of unknown origin and mera-bfrs mera-bfrs of the fire department and other citizens were on the scene a few minutes after the alarm was tinned In. Owing to tlie tremendous wind which was blowing nothing con id be done except ex-cept to check it from crawling back in the direction from which the wind was coining. Consequently, the fire completely complete-ly destroyed the two buildings adjoining, occupied by the Monarch Shoe Repairing company and the Wallace Photo studio. If it bad not been for the fact that there was on open space of about 100 j feet between the Wallace studio and the Golden Rule building the whole block would have been destroyed. The loss is estimated at about $12,000, Insurance covering cov-ering about 40 per cent of this amount. |
