Two and one-half feet of sulphide ore containing coprer and silver values has been encountered by the miners on the American Consolidated Copper company's ground in the Big Cottonwood district, according to D. L,. Smith, vice president a nd genera I manager of that company, ' These were assayed yesterday and gave the following results: Sample No. 1 of the ore ran .06 of an ounce in gold, 43. SO ounces in silver and 2.30 per cent in copper; cop-per; sample No. 2 of the wall rock ran .02- of an ounce In gold, .05 of an ounce in silver and a trace in copper. For many months the miners employed by the company have been driving the main tunnel In a direction slightly north of west, the objective point being to cut at a depth of about 400 feet from the surface the Silver King fissure. Iast Thursday the miners broke into what was apparently the casing of the fissure and. although the rock was very hard, it was in a shattered condition and showing a greater percentage of sulphide mineral. A much larger quantity of water was also encountered, which somewhat delayed the work. According to a telephone report received re-ceived from the foreman last night by General Manager Smith, the fissure has been crosscut for five feet, but the foreman fore-man is not certain as yet whether he has reach&d the hanging wall and will crosscut cross-cut it to make certain that it is not a slip. For five feet the vein material is heavily mineralized and there is two and one-half feet of sulphide ore exposed. A much better rate of progress is being be-ing made since the fissure was cut, the miners now breaking better than three feet per day. Two shifts are employed. The best rate of progress made heretofore hereto-fore has been about one foot per day. As soon as it has been definitely determined deter-mined that both walls of the fissure have been cut drifting will be started along it to the northeast and southwest. In about 100 feet of driving to the northeast the point will be reached where the fissure intersects the contact between the quartz-ite quartz-ite and the limestone formations. The quartzite forms the foot wall of the contact con-tact and the limestone the hanging wall. , The drift of the main tunnel to the south on the Garfield fissure is showing between six inches and one foot of ore, with the values improving. General Manager Man-ager Smith will leave for the property in a few days. |
