Show TO MEASURE CIRCUS BY CARFDR LICENSE City Collector Proposes New Ordinance to Govern Matter of Revenue. Because of the fact that designation of circuses as to immensity as being of one-, two or three rings is not satisfactory satisfac-tory in the issuing of licenses from the office of the city license assessor and collector, the time honored custom is threatened by an innovation. Charles W. Lawreuce, license assessor and collector, -nouldi have them measured mea-sured as to cars, and assessed for license li-cense at the rate of $5 a car. By. this means, the license department depart-ment can check with the railroad companies com-panies as to the size of circuses at the time of the issuing of the licenses, which is usually before the shows arrive. ar-rive. Mr. Lawrence says that there is usually a confusing divergence between the estimates of the man who applies for the license and the one who bills the show, as to its vastness. To correct this difficulty an ordinance ordin-ance is to be offered for consideration of the other commissioners by Commissioner Commis-sioner Karl A. Scheid of the department depart-ment of public affairs and finance. It will provide for assessment by cars, rather than by the number of rings or animals, clowns or equipment. Three other ordinances will also.be offered of-fered by Commissioner Scheid, directed direct-ed at correction of difficulties in assessment as-sessment of licenses. They will be for the purpose of defining brokers, real estate agents and bill posters. |
