Few of stop to think what an honor i privilege it is to be an Am-citizen. Am-citizen. Millions of people ftfry corner of the world are T!S to come to our country ftmake it their home, where Declaration of Independence, rtred by our brave forefath-'.f forefath-'.f grants them "life, liberty, ifthe pursuit of happiness." -s us consider the importance ose three promises: First, '.Pave the right to life; my cannot be taken from me jstly or without cause. It S be proven fairly and legal-fat legal-fat I am guilty of a crime -crvlng "capital punishment, be- my life can be taken. My liberty is also guaranteed. I have the right to live in peace and contentment. I may live how and where I wish, go where I choose, say what I please, think as I like, worship as I want, and in general do everything every-thing I please unless it infringes upon the rights of others. This also applies to our right to the pursuit of happiness in any path we think it lies. How many other countries fulfill these promises to their citizens?, Ours is truly a wonderful country of freedom, joy and peace. You say we have lots of troubles in America? Stop and think, think how small how very small our troubles are in comparison to the terrible things going on "over there". The horrible hor-rible wars, mass bloodshed, oppression, op-pression, starvation, dictatorships, dictator-ships, persecution, and all the other things we hear so much about at present. Stop and think of those things and be glad you live in the land of the free! Perhaps if we look at the struggle and strife of other countries, coun-tries, we will better appreciate this land of ours. Take the situation situ-ation in Germany for instance: Here we find the people living under a dictatorship. They have no personal rights no freedom. Children are forced to attend military training schools; people are allowed to hear only those radio programs their dictator wishes; freedom of speech has been long forgotten. In Germany (Continued on page 5) China and Japan, which has been raging so long. It is a bloody massacre leaving behind only death and destruction. Some of the most valuable things in the world are being destroyed forever. for-ever. Thousands of pitiful, starving starv-ing refugees are as great a problem prob-lem as the war itself. The Civil war in Spain is another an-other example of terrific strife. Here we find brother fighting brother; a beautiful country being be-ing torn asunder by its own people. peo-ple. It has been so greatly weakened, weak-ened, that undoubtedly it could be and probably will be taken by some powerful country. Divided as it is, this land will fall. Here again, we should be glad for the linitv nf nnr Amorinii Looking at Russia and all the other countries, we see that they all have so much more to worry about than we, that our country's coun-try's standing is really amazing. Even in powerful England, we recently hear of 15 people dying in one day of starvation. Surely that does not represent stability. Yes, we really have a nation to be proud of because of her democracy, demo-cracy, unity, safety, and peace. Her little troubles should only make her citizens more loyal and patriotic and thankful to God, as I am, for the glorious land they live in! Beverly Clays o ESSAY WRITTEN BY BEVERLY CLAYS ON AMERICANISM (Contintua" from Pagn 1) we also hear of the persecution of the Jews. Their money and property is taken from them, and some of them are injured bodily. It is said that there has been a law enforced making all Jews name their children with unmistakable un-mistakable Jewish names, and every Jewish man must add Israel Is-rael to his name, and very Jewish woman Sarah to hers, so there will be no question as to their racial identity. They cannot even select their own names, and they are aciuauy oeing ariven irom their homes. They are a race without a country truly, a terrifying ter-rifying situation. In speaking of Germany, we are reminded of Czechoslavakia; it has been torn apart by other countries. Imagine how we would feel if another country should conquer the United States! In Italy we see another example ex-ample of a dictatorship where a great race of people are sub-. jugated to the will of one man. Crn rf Viio whima miwht nnccihlv mean their destruction.
