Show TRADE OUTLOOK The business conditions of the coun try show little change from last week, j although the indications are all in fa vor of the prosperity side of the ledger The most favorable reports made to the commercial agencies come from the west and northwest where there is general activity accompan ed by wise conservatism Trade in the south is under a cloud owing to the uncertainty of financ ng the cotton crop but it is ant c pated that the matter will be def mtely arranged in a very short t me and business resumed on a more extended scale Just at present the banks in the east are exerc s ng great caution in the matter of loaning money and the Is ew York stock exchange remains closed The extraordinary financ al s tuation created by the European war s slowly r ght ng itself however and with the establishment of the regional reserve banks in the course of the next SO days a great improvement is cer tain to take place espec ally m the way of supplvmg money for legit mate bus nes enterprises The movement of grain and food stuffs to the European markets is J Blowly mcreas ng m volume and if the proper steps are taken to revive the American merchant mar ne the best of results will be mimed ately achieved not alone as regards the trade with Europe but the South American trade as well The confl ct now raging in Europe bids fair to cont nue for some time and the South American countries have already turned to the Un ted States for the products heretofore fur nished by Germany and Great Britain With sh ps flying the Amer can flag 1 plowing the seas a mighty trade wil ; Boon bo developed j The purchase of s Ivor by the gov ernment has improved the mining s t uation very materially lead is h gher and the inquiries concerning copper are more numerous all of wh ch tends to brighten the outlook in the west where optim sm is characteristic of the peo pie even under the most adverse c r cumstances So far as Utah s co cerned few complaints are hea d the e s no cause for worry so far a's the future is concerned and t may be re marked that the hardsh ps of the present time are lightly borne |
