Show TELLS OF RESCUE OF THE CREW OF LINER OCEANIC LONDON Sept 11 6 11 a. m Cap ta n Armour of the Aberdeen trawler Glenovil told the follow ng story of his rescue of the crew of the Wh te Star liner Oceanic to the berdeen eorre spondent of the Central lews It was misty and very dark Tues day morning otf the north coast of Sco land when our attent od was ar rosted ou our homeward way by sig nals of d stress in the direction of the coast It required skillful seamansh p which wonld have been impossible to a larger boat than oars to br ng the Glenovil near enough to d scover the Oceanic on the rooks Finally after a long and hard tns sle n the nasty sea we bro ght our selves alongs de Ropes and ladders were lowered over the side of the 1 ner, down which the crew scrambled and tumbled to the deck of our boat In a short tune pract cally every available nch of our space was occu p ed by men from the b g bbat We got 400 of them and then steamed off ve could hoi 1 no more and empt ed them on a larger steamer which was stand ng off n the d stance unable to cet anv nearer wi ho t herself run n ng on the rocks of th s dangerons oaEt fter transferr ng onr human freght we returned qnicklv b t cau t ously and took off the rema nder who were sim larly transferred to the boat n the off ng The rescue was attended by great r sk on account of the heavy sea and darkness an I tbo flangero s rocks all about The capta n of the Ocean was the last to lea e h s sh p He pa d un a h gh compl me t and thanked us warmly |
