However, lie believes that we should "forge a ring of steel around the western hemisphere to make it safe from foreign agression." The solemn le.;.-on this nation can learn from Ku rope's tragedy. I .a Follette said, in that "all strength comes from work." He pointetl to a baiikiupt, unarmed Germany of seven years ago, and said that nation reached her present power through work. To .-ay that it was done under the lash of dictatorship dicta-torship is an explanation and not an answer, he said. He characterized the real issue as being that between the "money changers wh. collect a living and those who want to earn a living." He doe-land that Republicans and Democrats Demo-crats "instead of fighting to drive the money changers out of the temples here, have continuously given aid and comfort to the appealers of Kurope, and that instp- i of protecting American people they are trying -o ensnare them in futile and dangerous gesture:', mat cannot save Rritian or help France." La' Follette warned that if the tiepublicans and Democrats Demo-crats fail us, that neither needs to come around with alibis, because the American people will be busy forming a new political instrument. The former governor listed seven basic principles to guide this nation : (1) America must not be involved in anybody else's war. 2) Forge a ring of steel around the western hemisphere to make it safe from foreign aggression. (3) Put our social and economic house in order. (4) Congress must take back its constitutional power over money and credit. (5) Develop a new frontier at home to provide jobs, (li) Selective service to defend America should include all according to their fitness. Great key industries must be included in the common enterprise. 17) America must shake off the spirit of defeat. |
