| Show PRIMARY associations interesting history of the organizations in utah stake the organization of the primary As of utah stake took place in september 1878 at a general meeting held in the provo meetinghouse meeting house there were present sister margret T smoot mary john and sl A aluff of the relief societies of utah stake and president A 0 smoot eliza R ehnow dabid john and H H claff were present eliza R snow stated that the object of the meeting was to organize a primary association in accordance with the suggestion of the first presidency she fhaid it would be necessary to haye a president two counselors a secretary treasurer and about three assistant monitors president A 0 smoot david john H H cauff sisters M T smoot mary john and margret A claff all offered encouraging remarks favoring the organization of primary associations in all the wards of the stake after which a president and two counselors were chloeen to act in each of the four wards of provo and were set apart by the presidency of the stake the monitors secretaries and treasurers treasur ers n hereafter tard act apart in their respective wards all of which was attended to within a month primary associations were afterward in other wards of the stake and three years there thiry nine primary associations tiie e are now 45 primary associations organized in this stake in laige wards anch as spanish fork goshen lehi american fork and pleasant grove there has been an assistant appointed and set apart to officiate in connection with the stake presidency of tho primary aiice assistants fisit the associations in carls and hold monthly to see that the officers are discharging their duties note any change and report the same to president annie K smoot the officers of the six wards of prove meet on the last thursday of each deliberate on matters con noted with the interest and progress of organizations there is also a local conference held in every six months president annie K smoot and counselors visit ohp associations of the Stake and hold conferences semiannually A nickel fund has apen for the purpose of migrating children from europe three having already been gathered to utah A special contribution for the manti temple was taken up each child giving a nickel and the officers twenty five cents each fairs are held annually in each ward the children contributing anch articles of their own manufacturing as are worthy of exhibition concerts sometimes take the place of where the associations wish to d eo the children who attend these prim ary meetings are taking great interest in learning all the principles of our religion also to arise ard pray and bear their testimonies and we realize that great good is beine done our children through these meetings in tha beginning bee inning and until 1881 these primary associations were under the management of the stake presidency of the relief societies margrot T smoot mary john and margret A ciuni in 1881 the primary associations of the stake were placed under the management of a regular stake presidency deccy consisting of zina Y williams nancy D smoot and maryt john ssarah E duff waa appointed secretory secre tiry and ottilie maeser treasurer the emerey with which officers labored in the stake save much arice to the primary associations on the of november 3 biser si ser nancy D and was succeeded bv sister annie K moot aaugust 28 zina Y williams removed to loan rendering ier resignation resi n quence and was succeeded by siviter Sif iter annie K amont in the september 1890 marv and braue in t mabel pratt and ida gatt vr were appointed in their pance the are now an important organization of the stake president annie JC brajot has labored very faithfully together with all the sisters in the stake to bring these associations ciati ons to the standard for which chev were designed ard when choosing cars in the ward associations she hag sought the lord for wisdom that suitable sisters might be selected to instruct the children and make gathering attractive I 1 |
