Show appointive CITY OFFICERS for many years the city council has been acting under the revised ordinances of prove city sec 27 which provides that all appointive officers hold office for tho term of one year only in 1888 the legislature passed a law which provides vol 1 compiled laws that in cities of the first and second class the council shall appoint a city attorney surveyor water roaster sexton supervisor of streets auditor and such other officers and agents as may by the city council be daemon tho next bostion Boc tion 1764 says the appointive officers of the city shall hold their respective offices for two years unless sooner removed by the city council that this latter is made cumulative and to tho charter of cities may bo seen by referring to sec 1817 of abe same volume it will be known thero foro that by the action of the council last monday night we ha TO two sots of appointive poin tive officers excepting in case of the old officers being re appointed it is quite plain that a mistake has been made and that the officers appointed a little over a year ago still hold their positions and are entitled to them fur one year longer by virtue of the law quoted unless sooner removed by the council of course an officer cannot be removed without cause and therefore tho would suggest that the council reconsider the action taken last monday night as wo do not it Is io accordance with the law |
