Show ponding week last year. The following counties reported report-ed no diseases: Beaver, Box Elder, Eld-er, Emery, Garfield, Kane and San Juan. In general, the report shows quite a marked improvement in the health of the people over that of last week; there being decreases in the number of cases of chickenpox, influenza, German Ger-man measles, mumps, gnorrhea, and syphilis. Health News A total of 494 cases of communicable com-municable disease was reported to the Utah State Board of Health for the week ending February 16 as compared with 12C2 for last week and 545 for the corresponding cor-responding week last year. Interesting feature of the report re-port was the case of anthrax which was reported from Tooele county. As yet, the probable source of infection has not been determined. Anthrax is a disease of animals and is usually contracted by man through the handling of hides, flesh or wool of infected animals. The infection may enter the skin and is then designated "malignant "malig-nant pustle" or it may be inhaled into the lungs and is commonly called "woolsorters' disease". Occasionally anthrax may be contracted con-tracted from the bristles of shaving shav-ing brushes which have not been properly sterilized. A few cases of anthrax occurred in the eastern east-ern part of the United States in 1939 from this source. Anthrax in Utah is a rare disease; only one case was reported in 1939. This patient was accidentally infected in-fected in a laboratory in one of our schools. Those especially exposed ex-posed to the hazard are laboratory labora-tory workers, veterinarians, meat inspectors, farmers, cattlemen and butchers, but especially workers with hides, hair, bristles, wool, etc. There were two cases of infantile in-fantile paralysis reported; one from Salt Lake City and the other oth-er from Ogden. Salt Lake City also reported one case of typhoid fever and one case of smallpox. There was an increase in the number of cases of measles reported; re-ported; 203 this week as compared compar-ed with 190 last week and 81 for the corresponding week last year.
