Show BUSINESS IN STEEL CONTINUES HEAVY NE7W TOIUC Feb. IS. Business in finished fin-ished steel products continues to come to the mills in tonnage almost equal to tho productive capacity. Shipments, however, exceed current orders, while output. Is as heavy as conditions will permit. The largest Interests aro running run-ning 9S per cent, which is practically full. The railroads aro promincntb" in the market for equipment, placing orders , since February IS at call for -100,000 tons of ctcel nroductE. Orders for cars last week aggregated 12.S00, including Z?M that were tentatively placed. Tho Pennsylvania Penn-sylvania company increased its orders for motive power by fifty-five engines. Tho Grand Trunk ordered 100 locomotives locomo-tives and the St. louls & Southwestern twenty engines. Tho rail mills secured additional contracts for -15,000 tons. Increased animation was ovldent in steel building and other structural lines. Contracts placed during the week called for 35,000 tons of fabricated shapes. There i also was considerable activity In steel platos. orders being booked for about i.'.GOO lonH, half of which wero for marine ma-rine work. |
