Show BINGHAM'S JUVENILE DELINQUENCY In the April issue of the Rotarian magazine, Tris Speaker, Speak-er, one of the all-time stars of the baseball world, points out thut juvenile delinquency decreases as the chances for playing play-ing sandlot baseball increase. This is a fine testimonial for junior baseball which has been carried on extensively by the American Legion. It speaks volumes for the value of supervised activities for youth. To those who have watched and applauded the Copper-ton Copper-ton playground program an carried out by the American Legion, Le-gion, Jordan school district and public spirited persons in Uingham Canyon, results confirm their belief that youth content in happy occupation finds little time for mischief. It is a known fact that in proportion to school enrollment, enroll-ment, I5ingham Canyon has a lower percentage of cases taken before the juvenile court in this district, which includes Summit, Tooele and Salt Lake counties, than any other city in this area. The community which plans and offers its youth activity activi-ty and healthful diversion has at the outset minimized chances chanc-es for delinquency. The results of such programs as the summer playground here are a rich reward for the forethought and planning necessary to their success. The playgrounds are worthy of continuous backing and every encouragement. |
