Show Presiding Judge and Famous Jockey Here 13. G. Hopper, who will be presiding Judge at the Lagoon races, arrived yesterday yes-terday and is at the Hotel Utah. Judge Hopper is tho very best official General Manager II. I. Wilson could get, as he has officiated for years at tlio California and other tracks. His reputation is high in the turf world. He camo direct from Latonla, where he was presiding Judge. Jockey Carroll Shilling, one of the premier pre-mier riders of America, was another arrival at Hotoi Utah yesterday. He will ride for his brother, but will accept a number of outside mounts. Shilling has had a number of offers to ride In Russia and Belgium, but he preferred to remain In America. Starter Harry Morrlssey and his assist-ants assist-ants were also among tho arrivals from Kentucky, and tho entire corps of officials offi-cials are now on tho ground ready for the opening Wednesday of the Lagoon summer season. .s,t,artor Morrlssey and IiIh assistants. William Cushlng, Thomas McKcon and Leon Carter, will Install the starting machine ma-chine early today and will at once begin be-gin the work of "schooling" tlio horses now at the track. Morrlssey has served for years as chief assistant to Mars CaB-sldy. CaB-sldy. and Is regarded as one of the best in the country. His work with the barrier bar-rier Is expected to be a great improvement improve-ment over that shown in recent years in this section. Horses are still arriving at Lagoon from many different points. The shipment from Latonla 13 due to arrive this morning; several carloads from Coeur d'Alene have already reached the course and others are expected hourly. A carload from Denver arrived yesterday, whore they have been pointed at the Overland track for racing on this circuit. Every stall on the groundB will be occupied when racing begins. The Kentucky consignment Includes some of tho best thoroughbreds ever brought west. In tho lot are the Henderson Hen-derson & Hogan string. J. T. Ireland's stable, a full carload tho property of J. N. Camden, the millionaire member of tho Kentucky Racing commission; the pick of Catesby Woodford's string and a part of Barney Schrelber's lot. Mr. Woodford Is president of the Lexington Racing association and a leading Kentucky Ken-tucky breeder. Tho cream of the thoroughbreds which raced at Coeur d'Alene have already reached Lagoon Vanlr, winner of the derby, and others of Frank J. Grefer's stable. In charge of tlio clever trainer.' Harrv llerdel. Is stabled at Lagoon: Meadow, the wonderful Texas mare, has arrived and Wade McLomore, her owner. Is due today; tho Terminal stable of San Francisco with the sensational two-year-old, Al Bloch, camo In yesterday, and Ed Oaylord's bunch, In charge of Trainer Benson, Is quartered at the track. All owners and trainers are more than pleased with conditions at Lagoon. A very few days at Lagoon will put even the old campaigners cam-paigners In excellent condition. Weights for the Utah Hotel handicap, the feature of the opening day's card, will be announced today, ajid a high-class high-class field is expected to go to the post.
