Show DR. JORDAN TALKS TO LARGE AUDIENCE Dr. David Starr Jordan, president of Leland Stanford university, was the principal speaker at the meeting of the teachers' institute held at Barratt hall yesterday. His subject was "The Needs of the Twentieth Century," and his audience audi-ence numbered more thun 1000 teachers and others. Superintendent P. II Christensen Chris-tensen of the public nchools opened the meeting and presented the distinguished speaker. Pr. r. H. Paul of the university univer-sity of Utah also addressed the teachers. Tie spoke on the various phases of educational educa-tional work and urged the teachers to strive toward the highest things In their profession. Ho cited numerous cases of teachers rising to great prominence in the affairs of the world, and made especial espe-cial mention of Woodrow Wilson, once a teacher and now a presidential candidate. candi-date. In his opening speech. Superintendent Superin-tendent Christensen mentioned tho recent re-cent death of Superintendent B W. Ashton Ash-ton of the Granite district and took occasion occa-sion to commend the life of Professor Ashton and his educational work. |
