Show ANOTHER BALKAN CRISIS. Nbi long ago there was a story of the murder of a considerable number of Bulgarians by Turks near the southern south-ern border of Bulgaria. A military posse (of Turks) which was sent to restore order is reported to have .joined in and continued the massacre. There are frequent massacres throughout Armenia, and, in fact, in almost any portion Of Asia Minor where the Turks ic ou a grouch, and have i onio occasion, cither real or fancied, to l'o on the warpath. The Turkish massacre- in Albania have been and are vet a shock to the world, and in order to preserve peace in his own dominion, King Nicholas of Montenegro has railed out the whole military force of his kingdom. And now there is reported from Belgrade Bel-grade a butchery of Servians by Turks 6n the .southern border of Servia Naturally, the Servians are much 6Hm raired at this, and it is slated that the Servian Government has made strong representations to the Porte against the massacres and against any invasion of Servian territory. But it looks as though there might be ;i bursting out of the long-smothered Balkan hrc. With the Turks murdering Bulgarian-, Seisians, and Albanians, the Turkish-European frontier fron-tier ia made red with blood throughout nearly its whole line. The inhabitants of Bulgaria. Servia, Albania, and Montenegro are not noted for their patience, their self restraint, or their endurance of outrage or insult. Quito the contrary. They nre an tnftammalde race of people, and it is quite possible that the may see in the present situation, where Turkey i in actual war with Italy, and where the Turkish aggressions on the European frontier are ,o reckless and unpardonable, their opportunity to throw off the Turkish yoke altogether from nil part3 ol European Christendom. This situation is certainly B jealous nnd critical one, and the world need not be surprised any fine morning I" find the borders ablaze with an anti-Turkish anti-Turkish war. |
