The Merchants li Light & Power company of this city proposes to invade the eler.- I trical field at Salt Lake City. f This information transpired today and ' it is announced that the Merchants ! company will present to tho board of .m 5 city commissioners of Salt Lake at its fij meeting on Monday the draft of a pro- I posed franchise. The Merchants is tha. company now supplying Ogden City with lights. The company will ask tho ijl Salt Lake commissioners, It is under- I stood, for a franchise covering- a period I of fifty .years. The object of the com- pany is to obtain a contract from Salt H Lake City for street lighting aud to H supply private consumers with light and- fl power. H The information ig that the terms I of the proposod franchise in Salt Lake aro very similar to tboso of the Ogden 9 franchise. In Ogden the municipality I is supplied with street lights at the I rato of $'1.75 per light per month. It was furthermore learned that the company will go after contracts for furnishing powor for manufacturing establishments in Salt Lako, but the rates for that service havo not been decided upon and will probably be governed gov-erned by conditions in Salt .Lake, with ospecial reference to competition. The Merchants Light & Power company com-pany is said to be composed entirely of tJtah business man. Its officers are jM. S. Browning, president; Joseph Scowcroffc, first "doe president; A. T. Wright, Eecond vice president; 0. E. Kaiser, treasurer; J. H. Do "Vino, secretary, sec-retary, and A-1. Brewer, Arthur Kuhn, B. E. .Bristol and T. N. Spargo, 'directors. 'direct-ors. All of these ar prominent business busi-ness mon of Ogdon. The organization was formed in March. 1911, and immediately thereafter there-after became the successful bidder for the contract to supply Ogden City with street lights. On Angu6t 20 the company com-pany was prepared to supply the service, serv-ice, and is now lighting this city. The company, in the event that it gets tho Salt Lako franchise and tho contract to supply municipal lights, will probably greatly enlarge its generating plant at Lagoon, from which tho Ogden service is supplied. It also has another source oC power at a point near Uintah, in connection with the Davis & Weber Counties Canal company's irrigation canals, which is Baid to havo a capacity of 6000 horsepower. Tn addition to these, it has othor resources of electrical elec-trical enorgy. Its system in thin city Is pronounced a complete and modern lighting sj'stem. |
