Show A PARTISAN'S DISCONTENT. When The Tribune made editorial mention of tho address of tho 3lcv. Elmer I. Goshen at Provo. Postmaster Clove of Hint city, who was mentioned in our comment, asked, to have his position publicly stated through these columns. That was' done, and wc made reply fit for the occasion. And so, the incident dosed. But the Smoot organ, not willing to have it that way, comes forward with a .show of its discontent with the attitude of The Tribune on this question. And it undertakes, to ite certain inconsistencies on the part of this paper, this inconsistency being simply that Tho Tribune did not consent con-sent to have partisanship control the schools under tho name of non-par-' tisanship. Wo have in this city a strictly and viciously partisan school bonrdt Not only that, a number of the member on that jjioanl rc open ber of these was reduced by the school election of last December. The Tribune docs not care for a mere name in this connection. Tho fact that a bitter partisau candidate presents his candidacy under tho name of non-partisanship non-partisanship does not in the least relievo re-lievo the situation. Wo do not fall for such a Clumsy device as that. Wc do not believe that an imp of Satan would bo in tho least, redeemed by putting upon his breast tho legend, "1 am .in angel " Wo do not bclicvo that essential essen-tial depravity can bo changed by putting put-ting on a cloak of piety, nor that a thing wholly loathsome is to be demised by a coat of whitewash. The Smoot organ 's claim of inconsistency incon-sistency on tho part of Tho Tribune simply means that The. Tribune has not. lent itself to the partisan schemes of tho Federal bunch in the matter of school control ' and school elections. That is all there is to it; and on that basis we are entirely content to rest. |
