Show CASE FvlAY BE REOPENED. La Follette or Borah Expected to Offer Resolution In Senate. WASHINGTON. April n Little doubt exists hero that an effort will bo made to reopen the Senator Lorlmer case In tho present congressional session. Insurgent Insur-gent Republicans have considered tho question at recent conferences anil the understanding Is that a resolution for the reopening of tho case will be offered either by Senator Borah or Senator La Follette. These sonalors sought at the last session ses-sion to induce II. H. Kolilsaat of Chicagj to make a statement along tho line of the testimony given in Springfield today, but they failed. It was In the hope of getting such a statement that Senator La Follette opposed op-posed fixing a time for n vote on the cose. When he became satisfied that he could not got the Information doslred. he permitted per-mitted the case to come to a vote, and It resulted In tho exoneration of the junior jun-ior Illinois senator. Friends of Senator Lorimor contend that uner senate precedents he could not be unsealed unless It was shown that he had been cognlznnl of the alleged corruption cor-ruption of tho legislature, or that a sufficient suf-ficient number of votes had been bribe! to destroy his majority. They also contend con-tend It will not be sufficlont to show that a $100,000 'sluRh" fund was used for the election of Senator Lorlmer unless it can be proved thai he had knowledge of the use of the money. In vlow of the fact that several senators sena-tors who upheld the contention of Senator Sena-tor Lorlmer are no longer members of the senate it cannot bo forecasted what the result of the reopening of the case may be. |
