Route, will begin reconnoifisance surveys under tho direction direc-tion of Chief ISnglncor E. G. Tlllon with a viow of re-establishing tho section sec-tion of the Salt Lako lino wiped out by the recent Hoods. What Mr. Clark Says. Reforo leaving ror Los Angeles Sunday afternoon, Mr. Clark gavo out the following follow-ing interview on behalf of himself and W. H. Bancroft, llrst vice president of the Salt Lake Route: "The weather conditions since the washouts In the Meadow Valley Wash havo been such that a thorough examination examina-tion of the present line has not been possible, and such an examination cannot be made until later, but as soon as the weather will permit the matter will be gone over carefully by competent engineers engi-neers to determine tho exact extent of the damage dono and the feasibility of reconstructing the line ihrough tho can-von can-von of the Meadow Valley Wash In lis former location or elsewhere. In tho meantime reconnolssances are being made on two other routes with view to ascertaining if n satisfactory alternate Is available. If It Is not found feasible to rebuild tho line through the Meadow Vallev "Wash on an absolutely safe basis, then it is possible one of the other lines being considered will be adopted and the road' constructed on such route. However, How-ever, as yet nothing definite , has been decided upon, and nothing can be or will be decided as to what Is to be done In tho future until full reports are submitted submit-ted by the engineers giving the results of their investigations." It Is pretty generally understood, ' although al-though It has not been definitely announced, an-nounced, that the Meadow Valley Wash line will be abandoned There are two alternative routes. One would leave the. present line of the San Pedro near Mo-dena. Mo-dena. going In the direction of St. George and meeting the established line of the Salt Lake Route nesr Moapa The other would range toward the north and west and would touch Hoche. skirting the foothills and coming in to tho present line about fifty miles this side of Las Vegas. If the Meadow Valley Wash line Is to be reconstructed, a high line will be surveyed. During his visit in Salt Lake. Mr. Clark mndo it positive that no time is to be lost In the reconstruction of the road Just as soon as a route Is decided upon, construction camps will be established and tho work of patching up the missing" section will be commenced. Mr. Clark expects to return to Salt Lake lif about two weeks. |
