Show University Notes Tho junior engineering students made the first geology field trip of the year Saturday, when they followed the top of north benches west for three miles, examining ex-amining tho different strata exhibited in the old lake shore deposits. Dr. Fred J. Pack led tho students over the trip and picked out the features of Interest. Inter-est. Beginning at a point north of the university buildings, tho students climbed the foothills to the Provo and Bonneville Bonne-ville levels of old Lake Bonneville, where they stopped and traced these levels south to the point of the .mountain. Then, going west, tho students examined the various gravel pits along the north bruich and observed tho different strata laid down at the different periods of the old lake's history.' Going north from the Warm Springs, the class followed the great fault plans lying west of the range of mountains, and traced Its outcrop north as far as the Hot Springs At the university senior extemporaneous speaking contest, held during the regular regu-lar weekly chapel exercises, L. Tom Perry Per-ry a varsity law student, won the cash prize of 52fi offered for the best speech. There were three contestants, D. M. Draper. C. T. Woodhorry and Perry, each of whom was given fifteen minutes to sneak on economic problems of tho nation. na-tion. Judge O. W, Powers was donoi of the prize. The varsity cirls were hostesses at a most enjoyable dancing matinee given at tho university gymnasium Saturday evening. Tho hall was well filled with students and all seemed to enjoy the event. The girls will glvo other dances of the matinee series every two weeks during the remainder of the year. Following the dramatic presentation of 'Tho Cllmbors." at tho Salt Lako theater Saturday evening by tho Agricultural college, col-lege, tho University Dramatic club entertained en-tertained tho Logan students at a stage banquet. This morning the Logan students stu-dents will be guests at an automobile party. |
