After standing up bravely under firo for threo days and an all night session of tho house, Speaker Cannon was reported to bo on tho verge of collapso at his residence lato tonight. Tho tremendous tremen-dous mental exertions, coupled with tho stress and strain of long and excited sessions of tho house, combined to wear down even tho hearty constitution of thu veteran speaker. Is Considerably Worried. Lato after the adjournment of tho house friends of the speaker expressed fears for his health. The speaker, however, how-ever, was spry and as chipper as a coy sparrow, although his face was drawn and his eyes tired-looking. Not only the physical strain, but the knowlcdgo that he has been shorn of his power combined to worry the speaker. Too Tired to Talk. After the adjournment of the house, .Mr. Cannon held a number of conferences, confer-ences, but cut them all as short as possible, pos-sible, and was hurried to his home in an" automobile, fjntc tonight, when asked to see some newspaper correspondents, corres-pondents, he sent word that ho was too tired to talk. |
