Dec. -.For the first time since it began its deliberations nearly six weeks ago. the special grand jury investigating: tho- recent- alleged dynamiting of tho Los Angeles Times elected today to hold a Saturday session ses-sion tomorrow. This is taken to mean that the predictions of indictments In the case are likely to bo at once fulfilled, and that a parllal report at least will be submitted. Tho significance of the jury's sudden determination to hold a Saturday session ses-sion was enhanced by the fact that just prior to the decision the Inquisitors held a. conference by which both Assistant Attorney C. C. McComas and Special Spe-cial Deputy Enrl Rogers wero excluded. Tho Investigation, however. Is not on tho eve of its close. More subpocnos were sent out today and enougli witnesses are said to be on their way here from San Francisco to keep the grand jury busy for two or throo days next week. Edward Efkins, business agent of the Electrical Workers' union of San Francisco, Fran-cisco, was one of the principal witnesses today, Elklns was one of the signers of a report published b.v the American Federation Fed-eration of Labor that tho explosion which wrecked the newspaper plant and killed twenty-one men was due to gas. He was followed by linotype operators who had testified before, and who, in statements made previous to their summons, sum-mons, hud declared that the gas supply In Ihe building was not sufficient to have caused so destructive an explosion. |
