Chester Colt r in and Seth Pace, who arc charged with burglarizing bur-glarizing Boyack & Hughes'y saloon at Spanish Fork on January IS last and stealing some wlno and gin, wero arraigned ar-raigned In tho district court today. Young Coltrln was permitted to enter a plea of guilty to petit larceny and will bo sentenced, sen-tenced, probably to a tine, May 21. Pace, who Is about 40 years of age. entered a plea of not guilty and his trial was .set for May 1C. This Is the case where In Chester Coltrln Col-trln and some other young men were employed by tho Spanish Fork police lo work up evidence against parties who were suspected of violating tho prohibition prohibi-tion ordinance, and it is alleged by the county sheriff and attorney that the boys broke Into tho building formerly used by Boyack & Hughes as a saloon and stole some wine and gin. which they were In lending lo use as evidence in prosecutions. Voting Coltrln, who is credited with being the ringleader and who was wearing wear-ing a policeman's badge at the time, now comes Into court and acknowledges his guilt and is permitted to plead guilty to a misdemeanor. Pace denies that he wns with the bovs when they entered tho building 'and stole the wine, and claims his only connection con-nection with the affair Is that the boys .gave him a drink on the outside of the building, but that he did not know tho lhiuor was stolen when he drank It. The case has attracted considerable attention atten-tion from tho fact that the boys, when confronted with tho evidence In tho hands of the sheriff's deputies, made some sensational aflldavlts in which it was charged that the police officers of Spanish Fork were aware of what had been done and that one of the policemen took al! the boys lo the station and thore swore them lo secrecy, under a throat of being sent to state prison If they divulged di-vulged how tho liquor was procured or anything else pertaining to their depredations. depre-dations. Some of the same boys who wore Implicated in the burglary caso wero also charged with stealing a number of chickens from a Spanish Fo'rk farmer.
