| Show MURDER ohn halmers palmers shooting scree at mill fork atol DAN Sh annl hoover his ara eil lie his ain upon them ent ther him hi sheriff fowler and deputy hoover went up to mill fark camp in spanish fork canyon yesterday after john palmer for choso whoso arrest they had a warrent charging murder they found their man standing in a creek with water up to liis ankles gun leveled at the officers as they came around a spur of alie mountains the officers however were prepared for any maneuvers of this kind and soon brought their man to terms the of a single shot palmer was formerly section boss at mill fork but had been replaced by dan obrien last saturday palmer got into a quarrel with obrien which resulted in a shooting scrape in brien was shot through alie left part of the groin the story as told by palmer to alie man this morning in the county jail is as follows I 1 came from colorado about sixteen months ago and got alie job of section boss on R G W section so 40 which runs south from salt lake I 1 have been transferred from several sections since then until I 1 arrived at mill fork I 1 went up to salt lake last month and was informed by alie general j roada master A osborne that if I 1 left my poet again I 1 bould be discharged after thinking alie matter over I 1 told him I 1 was not much sack on alio job anyhow and lie had better get another man he then gave the situation to dan obrien a friend of mine with whom I 1 have always been on good terms I 1 went to work under him last saturday my difo paid a visit to the section house obrien and a man we called scotty were there we were all under the influence of liquor As I 1 was sitting at one side of the room obrien came up with a butcher knife and in a joking manner drew it across both of my wrists ho then made a sign to scotty and stuck his knife into the table it appeared to me as though this wag intended as a kind of a challenge so I 1 took another butcher knife and threw it down by the side of his knife he then struck me and both lie and scotty jumped onto roe ray wife tried to help me and they beat her also I 1 got away and went acme but as my wife did not come I 1 concluded to go back and see about it obrien andS Scotty are both larger men than I 1 aim so I 1 took my gun along I 1 met scotty in the yard hd told him to keep away or I 1 would shoot him he did keep away but obrien came out and when I 1 told him tho same he paid no attention to it and I 1 shot him through the groin I 1 did not shoot to kill the excitement sobered us both up and I 1 stayed there and helped to flag the train I 1 biad a long conversation conver with him and he seemed quita frendly when th officers came after me 1 made up my biad to run away but finally concluded to purrander sur rander I 1 had my gun but did not draw it on tho officers palmer is 33 years of age and has a wife and three ildren cli ue is of dark complexion and medium size sheriff fowler reports the man as being drunk when he was captured |
