| Show STARVING CITIZENS yes there is destitution in south dekota bays gov all reports to the contrary notwithstanding and what is more I 1 cant see the wisdom of attempting to cover up these facts or being at all about this business if they are the truth they are bound to come out no matter how much so called boomers may attempt to cover them up and what is more I 1 cant see how by managing things publicly known anything but good can result it is not to be supposed that any one is coming here without investigating the condition of affairs or that we want anybody to come in any other way it is a misfortune that there is destitution but it wll only be tem horary this sad state of affairs exists also in kansas and that state is trying to hush the matter up the same as is done in south dekota thinking it will injure the of speculators for the truth to become this is folly in the extreme as men who invest these days do not usually do so with their eyes shut if they visit the locality and there find matters in a deplorable condition and the population trying to conceal the facts it is bound to redound to the discredit and injury of such a locality people are made to suffer needlessly through such a wil fall plan of keeping the real condition of the from the knowledge of the american public the states of our proud union have citizens with big hearts and they would gladly lend aid to a sister state suffering temporarily from bad crops or other causes but how can the sufferers expect relief when their suffering is not known tho philosophy of governor is certainly praiseworthy he continues we may be called beggar but is it not better to beg than to freeze and starve and that is what people are already doing and will continue to do with increasing measure from this time on if the states provide the means of com farming next year they will do a good deal I 1 believe in asking aid wherever we can get it it seems to mo a false pride to keep facts as serious as these suppressed it is unnatural and uncalled for on any grounds that I 1 can see southern dakota may be amply able to take caro of itself and live but whether that covers the present situation is the question I 1 do not that fine sentiment as it is will keep people from starving and freezing to death in our part of the state if impartial judges thought the situation a serious one last year tiny will find it much worse this vear |
