Show I AUTOMOBILE CRAZE HAS REACHED SALT LAKE C8TY In forest in automobiles and automo-biling automo-biling in this city is becoming greater every day and the dealers at present arc unable to supply tho big demand for 1909 machines. Several new companies com-panies arc being organized to do business busi-ness in this city, oue of the new concerns con-cerns being the Randall-Dodd Auto company, which at the present timo has a temporary salesroom at 225 South j West Templo street, but which will move in the near futuro to 231 State street. This company has secured tlm agency, of the Thomas "Flyer," tho car which I won the around-lbc-world automobilo j last, vear, starting at New York and i - . . . n nn... rm : .. nnisuing in i.uib. j-w; iiiuninn in h popular car with tho Salt Lako enthusiasts enthu-siasts and one which hns a record for ctoss country runs. Tho new salesroom sales-room on Ktn'to street will bo equipped with tho latest machinery and fixtures, and will be largo and well adapted for the displav of cars. The agents expect ex-pect to sol! 100 Thomas Flyors in tho next two months; which is the buying automobile seasou. Sam Sharman of the Sharman Auto company says that the season is a big surprise to all dealers who expect to doublo the sales of last year. Mr. Sharman received a telegram from the Maxwell-Briscoo Motor company announcing an-nouncing the start of fho Maxwell on a record-breaking tour, On which trip it will be attempted to keep the motor running 10,000 miles without a slop. The record is held at present by a Reo. tho car which was used as Tho Salt Lake Tribune pilot car for lho Thomas in the race around the world. Tho Reo started at Ogdcn and accompanied- the .Thomas to Los Angeles,1 where it contained running without stopping lho motor, covering a distnnco of 4992 miles, which is slill the record. w h The Tom Bottorill, Automobilo company com-pany is now occupying its new quarters quar-ters ou Stale si root, and has one of the finest garages west of Chicago. The ontiro top floor- is used for offices and salesrooms and tho basement is used for tho rcpnir shop. Botterill says that trade is good and ho is confident, that beforo lho close of the season thero will bo over 1000 automobiles running in this city, which is aboul twice tho present number. u 4 Tho agitation of good roads all over tho country hns roached Hub city and automobile owners hopo to sco some stops taken toward a general improvement improve-ment of the public highways. It hns been suggested many times that a road from Logan to Provo would groatly increase in-crease in value tho farm lands along tho highway and would be a boon to tho farmer," as woll as to tho automobilo automo-bilo owner Tho present road is worse than none- at all for nearly half iis distance. dis-tance. Reports havo it that tho road between this city and Ogdon is the worst stretch of thirty-sevou miles in tho United States. This is not tho best kind of au advertisement for the fnrm-ing fnrm-ing district through which the road pasfos. Every automobilo dealer in the state would bo willing to contribute to a good roads fund according to his means, if tho state would lako hold of the matter and put in a good highway from 3jOgnu to Provo, or even further south. All the states in tho union aro makiug appropriations for good roads, and unless this stato wakes up it will find itself far behind in tho movement, aB well as in improvements. |
