Walter Travis, three limes winner of the championship, went down to defeat before young Gardner despite his splendid splen-did golf of the afternoon. t Mason Pholps, with an advantage of lour holes over Paul Hunter on tbe morning round, had considerable dilli-eulty dilli-eulty with his opponent in the aflur-nonn, aflur-nonn, but won.
