Show M'FARLAKO WILL 6E Mftgl'S HEXT MAN Reports Have Tt That Lightweight Light-weight Champion Has Signed to Fight. Trlbuno Special Sporting Service. NEW YORK, Oct. 3. There .is-joa-' son to believe that "Jim" Coffroth has signed Battling Nelson ' and Packy McFarland, the Chicago light- i weight, for 'a long-distance contest. Reports from tho coast say tho boys will meet on Thanksgiving day, but it is' moro like-ly the dato will be New Year's day. No doubt McFarland would bo only too glad to get a chaneo at the champion just as soon as possible, possi-ble, but Nelson is tied up with theatrical theatri-cal contracts for, months, and it isn't likely that so wise a manager as Willis i Britt would cancel these contracts to j allov Nelson to box McFarland, even for a big purse. Britt knows full well that ho can get Nelson signed with" McFarland, or any other lightweight in the country, at any time, and for a big purse, aud he is willing to have Nelson make some monev iu the theatrical business before be-fore he again sends him into the ring. In the negotiations between CoITroth aud Nelson, McFarland, it is said, has had no bay, simply because it is known that "Mac" will agree to any reasonable reason-able terms. If there is any trouble in getting tho boys togother, ii; will doubtless doubt-less bo over iho number of rounds to I bo boxed. Nelson will insist on a forty-five-round coutest, and ho is justly just-ly entitled to mako such a" demand. He is not a short-distance boxer. McFarland McFar-land is, and will no doubt try to bring the bout down to twenty rounds at least. On past performances Nelson should havo little- troublo in winning from McFarland. |
