Show IN A tribute to the memory of david A goodman editor ot the in looking over your paper of november I 1 was startled at au article headed sad death of A goodman and to pay respect to n fiend with whom I 1 spent my boyhood datys I 1 will attempt to express my and sympathy though far from my ever bleeding bleeping playmate my thoughts and sympathies cannot be placed in words to murmur through this communication they will ever iong be buried in my heart david A goodman was my nearest playmate play mate from the cradle until a few years since at which time we i cached years of anxiety and and left our home and schooldays school days behind us dave as he was called was on lifes journey with a bright fixture before him he was taken irom this world at his bodt of duty he was taken when manhood s morning almost touched noon and while the shadows were still falling towards the v est while vet in love with life and with the world lie passed to silence and pathetic dust iu abo happiest funniest sunniest sun niest hour of all the voyage ahila eager winds were kissing every sail tor his bark to dash against the unseen rock and in an instant biear alie billows roar above a sunken ship yet after all it may bo best for whether in or among the breakers of the farther shere a wreck at last must mark the end of each and all and every lik nu matter if its every hour is rich wilh love aud every moment jeweled with joy will at its close become a tragedy aa sad and deep and dark as can be woven of the warp and woof of mystery and death this good hearted and tender young man in every storm of life was oak and rock but in the sunshine lie was vine and flower he was the souls he climbed the heights and left all superstitions far below dave loved the beautiful and was with color and music touched 10 tars we have lost a friend who cannot b replaced with us again but he has gone to a more delightful place than aea on earth life is a narrow vale between the cool and barren peaks of two eternities we strive in vain to look beyond alie heights we cry aloud and to onla answer is the echo of our wailing cry from the voiceless lips of the dead there comes no word it is sad to think that one v ho haa been mingling among us should be taken far away in such an instant but he lies at rest in silence and in peace and I 1 was glad to know that around his bier gathered the members of his brave profession on every side were heard words of affection and praise for the departed young man and regrets that his career had ended too soon were on every lip the sincere sorrow of a friend can scarcely be measured by words it waa the aching hearts and longing mind that attested tho true sorrow which filled every heart chosen from the many young men in which he dwelt dave was one whom god placed his hand upon to be taken away and we give to him hia sacred dust A FRIEND TELLURIDE col dec |
