on halstead street near fulton the mill was surrounded by a number of frame buildings and the roof of the mill was raised in the air and fell upon several of the buildings crushing them no lives are known to have been lost however outside of the night force employed in tha mill of these charles miller engineer john smith and earnest caster millers are known to be in the ruins john holmes another miller was blown out of the second story into the street and picked up fatally injured the fire which ensued lasted an hour the greatest damage next to the building itself will be in the destruction of the window glass in the vicinity the entire fronts of the buildings for a block on either side of the mills are cracked and tho windows broken A rough estimate places the loss at A battalion of twenty firemen and over a hundred volunteers are at work clearing away the ruin of last nights explosion earnest casper one of the three irown to be dead was at work on the engine in the cupola at the time the cupola was lifted almost entire and thrown a distance of sixty feet upon the south side of the street the ed form of casper is somewhere under the wreck joha christensen a kiln man is the second known victim his body has not been found charles miller the engineer is also buried under the debris the proprietor and manager of the mill were on the ground early this morning but have been unable to leam positively the causa of the ex sion each thinks the oatmeal may have caused it but tho ter riffia force is unprecedented if this theory be accepted no other reasonable explanation is
