One of the most miraculous escapes from a horrible death ever heard of In this enmp waa that of John Mitchell while at work yesterday ropniring tho cable at the Ontario No. C shaft. Mitchell, while In company with S. Hunt, was stretching the cable at the collar of the shaft with a wlndlnsit when the windlass broke, throwing Mitchell n the air. and then he dropped head first down the shaft. After falling a distance of about fifty feet he cuught the cable of the cage, and climbed into the timber. Hunt immediately summoned aid and the cage was lowered. Much to tho surprise of the men aboard, Mitchell called to them to stop the cage and take him on. lie was unhurt except for a few bruises, and badly shaken up. Yesterday, at the home of the bride's parents Miss Florence Yates and Louis Ford were (tuMIy married. The young couple will make their homo in this city. The regular semi-monthly meeting of the City Council was held last evening. It was the first time In several weeks that the Mayor and Council were all present. Liquor licenses were granted to tho tol-lowing: tol-lowing: Sprlggs & Crooks.. Salsbury .': Stevenson. Park City Mercantile company com-pany and George Manning. Mayor Wilson called tho attention of the Council to the appropriation niado at the lust session of Congress for a idle for a new Federal building to be erected here by the government and asked that a citizens' meeting bo called n.?xt week 'io have the people get busy and boost for the Federal building.
