Show ITS WHINING CRINGE. The Dcserct News recently sent out to the orthodox miuisters of this city, a begging circular asking them to subscribe sub-scribe for it at half rates. We were shown one of these circulars, and on Thursday morning made a roprialc comment thereon, calling attention to the false pretenses used in that circular of the Ne.ws being an organ of law-abid-ingness, morality, and Sunday observance. ob-servance. On all these points -we showed that the News was conspicuously the reverse of what it pretcuded to be. Aud wo referred specifically to the practice of the News in virulently assailing the Christian ministry whenever anything was said or done by a Christian minister minis-ter that it considered antagonistic, to its own sectarinn bigotry nud interests. It has always been virulent, abusive, malignant, aud mendacious, in il.s assaults as-saults upon the Christiau miuisters of Utah and elsewhere. We considered, and do now consider, that this begging .appeal of the News to Chrisiian ministers on absolutely false promises, lo subscribe for the News, was one of the most brazen, sbaineless acts of uelf-abascment that -we ever knew to be committed by any person, firm or corporation. The News, reeking with lawlessness, and with abuse of the Christian ministers, offering to sell th Cm a gold brick iu the wa3' of good citizenship, morality, and Sunday observance, ob-servance, gots down on its knees, crawls, and. begs them lo take its paper at half price. It was a spectacle to call for the severest se-verest reprehension, aud to hold up as a miserable exhibit of craven mendacity. menda-city. Wc did' so accordin"'-. and the Now:s now claims that what wo said was an "insulting tirade." The News, as usual, has the wrong words. It was a perfectly just and well merited casti-gatiou, casti-gatiou, calculated to chasten the spirit of tho bumptious, treasonable, immoral organ of a lechorous, adulterous, avaricious, av-aricious, usurping, despotic, tyrannous priesthood. And that tho castration reached its mark wc havo abundant evidence evi-dence in tho loud, whiniug outcry of tho Dosorct News, as well as from other sources. And all that outcry aud whining whin-ing afford us "the deepest satisfaction. |
