Show THE JESSE KNIGHT SMELTER. The opening yosterday of the Jesso Knight smelter was an event of high importance in the mining and smelting smelt-ing world. Its benefits to the ore producers are accentuated by tho necessity neces-sity for nil independent market for their products, one not within the control of any combination with set prices for treatment, these prices fixed solely with a view to the advantage of tho company treating the -ore. The absence of independent smelting facilities in this great mining center has proved a sad deterrent toward ore production and mino dovelopmcnt throughout all tho region that seeks to markot its ores in this valley. Thcro has been partial relief in tho opening of the Unitod States smelter, nnd now thoro will bo a moro convenient and specific relief for tho groat, Tintic mines by tho opening of Mr. Knight's smoltor for tho treatment of tho ores of that vastly producing camp. A large, company of Salt Lakers went to Tintic yesterday to participate in tho jollifications and good feeling attendant upon tho opouing of this smelter, and to testify to thiiir appreciation of Mr. Knight's good work and service to the mining industrj- oi Utah through his enterprise in constructing this suieltor. It will undoubtedly porform a vaJuablo and much-needed sorvico in tho local mining world. The whole business community, com-munity, not the mining and smelting interests in-terests alone, aro interested and will bo benefited by this enterprising and successful suc-cessful movo of Mr. Knight's, and ho is entitled to tho warm recognition of all for the sorvico ho has conferred upon all concerned. It was a good thought of his to put up this smelter; and wo trust that it may provo a profitablo one to himself, as it certainly will to the wholo Tintic district especially, and to tho entire local mining world in good degree. |
