Show OFFICIAL STEPS 113 DEPORT ANARCHISTS Secretary of Commerce And Labor La-bor issues Sweeping Order to This Effect. WASHINGTON, I. C, March 3. Secretary of Commerce and Labor Straus loday issued a sweeping order to all commissioners of immigration and immigration inspectors in charge, directing thorn to confer with tho police po-lice in their respective .-"urisdictions with a view to securing the ' co-operation of tho police and detective forces in an effort to rid the. country of alien anarchists and criminals falling within tho law relating to deportation." Tho order of Secretary Straus follows: fol-lows: "To all commissioners of immigration immigra-tion and immigrant inspectors in charge: Aimed at Criminals. "It is hereby directed thai;, with a view to promptly obtaining definite information in-formation with regard to alien anarchists anarch-ists and criminals located in tho United States, you shall confer fully with tho chief of police or the chief of the secret se-cret service of tho city in which you nro located, furnishing such official with detailed information with regard to tho meaning of the term 'anarchist,' as used in the immigration act of February Feb-ruary 20, 1907, and with regard to the interpretation of that statute against aliens of the criminal classes, explaining explain-ing the powers and limitations imposed by said statuto -upon the immigration officials with respect to such persons. "You should call to the attention of the chief of police or chief of the secret service the definition of 'anarchist' 'an-archist' contained in sections 2 and 513 of tho act of February 20, 1907. and tho provisions of section 2, placing within the. excluded classes 'persons who have been convicted of or admit having committed a felony or other crime or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, pointing out that, if any such person is found within the United States within three years after landing or entry therein he is amenable to deportation de-portation under the provisions of section sec-tion 21 of the act. Extent of the Order. "The co-operation of said officials should bo requested, making it clear that in order that any particular anarchist an-archist or criminal may bc deported, evidence must bc furnished showing; "I. That the person in question is an alien, subject to the immigration act. "2. That ho is an anarchist; or criminnl as defined in the statue. "3. The name of tho country whence ho camo; the details with respect re-spect to the last throe items being kept at the various ports of entry in such a manner as to be available if information infor-mation is furnished with respect the anarchist's name, the dale ot his arrival, ar-rival, and the port of entry. "li is desired that the above indicated indi-cated steps shall bc taken at once, and that no proper effort shall be spared to secure and retain the co-operation of the local police and detective forces in an effort to rid tho country of alien anarchists and criminals falling within the provisions of the statute relating io deportation.'' |
