Show COUNCIL REPORT ACQUITRALEIGH Is Submitted by Committee of the Whole to Special Meeting Meet-ing of Body. VARIOUS COMMITTEES MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS City Will Hold Surety Company Liable to Independent Telephone Tele-phone Bonds. The report of the committee of the whole, acquitting Street Supervisor Knlcigh upon the charges mado against him by William Jones, was submitted to the City Council :t a special meeting meet-ing ThurKdaj' evening. Upon request of Mr. Raleigh the matter went over until nc.t Monday evening. The Committee on Finance recom mended that the blanket license granted to the Penny Arcade, at 72 East Second Sec-ond South street, some months ago, be so worded that the institution be required re-quired to pay the license as provided by ordinaucc". The Penny Arcado secured se-cured a license for one year, for Sifi.v, to operate about sixty machines. The concern will now be required to pa $?J per year for each machine. Tho action ac-tion of the committee was based upon au opinion by tho Cily Attorney. The report, was adopted. Die Committee on Finances made the following recommendations, which were adopted: That an estimate in favor of .lames Kennedy for $6933.5't, for sewer extension, bo approved and paid from the sewer fund; that au estimate of S25 12.132 in favor of A. Campbell for sidewalks be paid: that au estimate iu favor of P. J. Morau for walermniu extension in tho sum of ."fHGOl.SS be paid: also estimates for .$14,110.27. S1S.72S-18 and $M,5Sn.51, in favor of Mr. Moran, be paid, tho latter sum to bn paid from the water fund. The Cit" Recorder was instructed to notifv Windsor & Co. nnd the Independent Independ-ent Telephone company I hat the city would hold them both liable under the 2o,000 indemnity bond, given to protect pro-tect the city from damages in cases wherein the telephone company is liable. lia-ble. Windsor & Co. are agents for the Fidelity Deposit company, which was surety for the telephone company, and the agents recently informed the" Council Coun-cil that the telcph'ono company had refused re-fused to pay the premium on "the bond and that the dfposit company would no longer be liable. The petition of W. S. Hills for a liquor license al G-l fommrecial street was held up, virtually every proporty owner ; on the street having protested against the. issuance of the license.
