Superintendent Chrisiensen of t,hc rttyj" schools has been informod by patrons pa-trons of the schools' that, a woman' book agent has boon selling an encyclopedia, or set of books, in the city upon tho representation that tho books havo boon approved by teachers. Tho woman, it is said, points out to patrons that the work is one that should be in tho hands of ovcry pupil and that tho children may fail of promotion wjt.hout it. Coupled Cou-pled with this statcmoht is the allegation allega-tion that tenchcTH and principals have indorsed tho work aa being one that should bo in tho hands of ever3 pupil. Superintendent Christonsen said Fri-dn' Fri-dn' that no such indorsement had been made bf tho work and that ho doubted if it would bo of nuy real benefit to the pupils. An effort haB been made hy a truant officer to locate tho woman, and, although al-though he has struck her trnil frequently, fre-quently, he always has been a few blocks' behind her. 3 |
