Show IRRIGATION DELEGATES LEAVE FOR CONGRESS Seventy-Five Persons Take Special Spe-cial Train for the Idaho Capital, An enthusiastic crowd of pcojdo. numbering between seventy-five and eighty, gathered at the Oregon Short Line "depot Sunday evening at 8 o 'clock to tako tho special which was to carry them to the big Irrigation congress at Boise, Ida. While the crowd was a happy one, everything was ordorly uud there' was no flare of trumpet or sounding sound-ing of cymbols, and tho special cars which we're for tho use of the visitors to Boiso were hitched to tho Yellowstone Yellow-stone llyor with little ceremony, and wore rapidly filled with passengers. The special car, Linwood, carrying tho Eastern press representatives, was also attached to tho llyer. This car came in with tho Los Angolcs Limited, which .was held out an hour and a quarter by a slight wreck eastward. This caused some disappointment to tho press representatives, as they had planned to take in Salt Lake whilo here. The newspaper men were met at the depot by Apostle Smoot and James Close, and wore escorted to the Mormon Mor-mon Tabernacle, where an organ recital was given. Following this the party went to tho Commercial club, where they were again the guests of tho apostle at dinner. The party included Harry J. Brown of tho Portland Ore-gonmn: Ore-gonmn: Ira E. Bennett of the Washington Wash-ington Post and San Francisco Chronicle, Chron-icle, James Hay. Jr., of the Washington Washing-ton Times, W. 1L Thorpe of the Forestry For-estry nnd irrigation Journal, Washington; Washing-ton; 11. W. Shult7. of the Little Bock Gazctto nnd other papers, B. W. Pullman Pull-man of tho Washington Post, H. W. JNesbit of the Pittsburg Press, Charles S. Smith of the Associated Press, and H. Gilson Gardnor of the Newspaper Enterprise association of Cleveland, O. General Passenger Agent Burley and Assistant General Passenger Agent Spencer were at tho station to welcome the visitors. These gentlemen had arranged ar-ranged with the Snltair Beach railway to have the G o'clock train held fifteen minutes in order to have the visitors visit the lake, but, the beach management manage-ment changed its mind and sent the train out on time, hence the newspaper nuui did hot go to the- beach. Tho newspapor fraternity of Salt Lake were not advised of tho coming of tho party, henco none were present to welcome them or to entertain them. lmmediatel' after dinner had been served tho entire party walked to tho Oregon Short Line depot, where tho visiting writers were kept busy looking after their luggage until time to tako the train again lor the lust stretch of their long journey. Practically in charge of the party is Mr. Alfred Dar-low, Dar-low, advertising a'gent of tho Union Pacific at Omaha, and ho is entertaining entertain-ing the visitors in grand style. The special was attached to the Yellowstone Yel-lowstone llyer as far x as Pocalello, where it was given a special engine to take it on to Boise, where it was scheduled to arrive at 8:30 this morning. morn-ing. .i |
