For the purpose of competing with the short route which will be established between Denver and Salt Lake City by tho completion com-pletion of tho Moffat road to Routt county and to n connection with tho Denver & Rio Grande at Detsero. which now seems certain, tho Union Pacific railwa3 is planning the construction con-struction of a cutoff between Platto-vijle. Platto-vijle. Colo., and' Laramie. W3'o., which will eliminate all heavy grades between Denver and Laramie and shorton tho distance to Salt Lake City. Engineers of the Union Pacific have completed a survey for the proposed cutoff and parr of the right, of wa3' has been secured. Five 3'ears ago, when it became evident evi-dent that the Moffat road would be built, the Union Pacific began looking about for a shorter route betweeu Denver Den-ver and the Mormon ci t.v- Several plans were reported on, but none seemed to please E. H. Harriman. The expendi-' turcs involved were too largo to mako the plans practicable. The idea of constructing a cutoff from Plattcvillo to Laramie, according to report, has met. the approval of Hur-rimnu Hur-rimnu and it will probablv be built. The Union Pacific is to'ing to prevent the Colorado and Southern from extending extend-ing its Fort Collins Jino io Che3enne, to connect with its Wyoming line, and it is said that the proposod Piatt cville-Laramie cville-Laramie cutoff will help in the plan of cut off the Colorado & Southern. |
