Vive-Admiral Wray of the Colorado Springs (Colo.) association, as-sociation, which Is preparing tho celebration celebra-tion of the centenary of the discovery of Pike's Peak by Capt. Zebulon M. Pike, has mado arrangements with the authorities authori-ties here for a liberal representation of the Government on the occasion As Capt Pike mado his expedition to the Aocky mountains under the auspices of tho army, of which he was at the tlmo an olllcer. a large detachment of troops will bo detailed and compete In tho exercises. The date for the celebration has been fixed for September 23-29. and as It will Immdlately follow lhe annual maneuvers at Fort Rellev, the troops will be sent dl-cctly dl-cctly from tfiat point The exact number num-ber has not been determined, but Mr. Wray thinks there will be several thousand. thou-sand. Capt. Leupp of the Indian bureau has also promised that the various tribes of Indians that Inhabited the region of the peak at the tlmo of Pike's visit In 1S0G shall 1)2 nrcsent. These will Include Utes, Clioycnnes, Arapahoes, Comanches and others. Mr. Wray has also received assurances that copies of Pike's manuscript reports on his expedition will bo supplied and ho expects reproductions of the army uniform uni-form used in Pike's time and also models of the modern warships, the Colorado and the Denver. |
