Show HEAVY WOOL CLIP This the Prediction for This Tear by Vornon Man. Mr. Walter James of Vernon, Tooclo county, Utah, made a pleasant call on Tho Trlbuno yeRtorday morning, giving some matters of Interest In hlB locality. Ho lives on the edge of tho "Great American Amer-ican Desert," where thousands of sheep winter every year "With respect to the wintering of the flocks on tho range this year ho says it has been a cold winter, but the temperature has been very even, with plenty of snow to afTord water, so that there was no need for the sheep to stray away In the hills. They have been kept compactly In the plains and there has been no loss 4o speak of. While tho winter has beon a cold one. It has been even, so that tho growth of the wool will also bo even and not broken, as would bo the case, and as Is tho case.- In winters where very severe Bpellfl of weather prevail, then a warm, open spell succeeding; then cold, then warm, and so on. In such casen the wool In what is called broken, tho growth being be-ing firm and hard In the cold period and loose and soft In tho warm period. Tho fleeces this year will not only be even In growth, but will be henvy- Tho woather was cold enough to Insure this and varying but little In tompcrnturo for months together would foster a heavy growth. The snowfall has been ample upon the range, moistening tho dry feed so as to make It rellshablo by the sheep, and tho cold and storms have kept back the early growth of grass, which would tempt the sheep away from tho winter feed to the soft feed of tho now grass, very much to their detriment. Unless something very much out of the usual order onsueo the flockmastern will reap a rich harvest with the wool clip by reason of tho good quality and tho heaviness heavi-ness of tho fleeces. The price Is unprecedented unprece-dented and the sheepmen will undoubtedly undoubt-edly do well this year. |
