Show W KILL &BIRB DEEP FAR CHyTES Several Companies Are Doing Work at4 Depth in Xofcd Section. DAY OK SURFACE WORK IS FIXISJIBD Coining Season Will Kind Several Sev-eral Mines Opened on Low Levels. Local circles hoar a great deal about Parle City nnrl her great, mines, and correctly so, but there is one portion of that, section of mineralized Utah seldom mentioned, that is both busy and ac I'omplishing these hard iiuiCB. This is the'scction known aa Scott Hill, located about three and ono-lmlf miles southwest south-west from Park City, or one mile northeast north-east of Brighton, on the Cottonwood Hide and ucnr the divide between Big Cottonwood nnd the Thanes canyon region. Visitors from Park City sponk glowingly not only about the sort of results that are rewarding Scott Hill operators, but of tho character of earnest endeavor they arc using to roach their mineral resources. There aro four or five difforonl organizations or-ganizations within this area that aro now accomplishing exactly the right sort of development work. Heretofore Scott Hill as a section has been productive pro-ductive of splendid ore from very shallow shal-low levels, but, enough work was done to demonstrate the strength of the oro bodies, and the fact that they would oxtend deeply. Never before in tho history of Scott Hill, therefore, has deep dovplopmonl, work been attempted, but at tho present time there aro throo or four deep tunnels which aro all being sent forward as if no such thing us a financial stringonc3' existed in the laud. Among tho companies at. work mav be mentioned the Copper Apex, the Scottish Scot-tish Chief, tho Iowa Copper nnd tho West End. Tho Silver King Coalition company likewise is sending forward the Alliance tunnel into the heart of the roccntJy acquired Odin ground, which really is considered part and parcel par-cel of the' Scott Hill portion of the camp. "Within the lines of the Copper Apex group nro eleven claims, the company being a corporation taking over the Brown Mining company's possessions. Under tho care of Superintendent D. G. Scotfc tho Copper Apex is running a deep tunnel to gain a depth of from 300 to 400 feet below the bottom of the upper -workings, in which sonic extremely extreme-ly fino showings have been made in the past. The ore is making exclusively in the line formation, and making in strong chutes. In the bottom of tho old inclino the management some time ngo opened up a chute of ore ranging from three to six feet in width, which averaged 24 per cent lead, 16 ounces silver, and 10 per cent iron to the. ton. This ore has been left undisturbed, the management being desirous of exploring explor-ing the ground rather than slope out the oro as encountered. TJecently n new incline was driven to a depth of 150 feet, from which a drift nnd other workings were commenced com-menced to opon up ore chutes. A vein was encountered by this work which gave averages of 20 per cent lead. 10 ounces silver and 10 per cent. iron. Some of this ore taken out through development work was shipped, also sonic rock running 12 per cent copper and 10 ounces silver was shipped during dur-ing tho past summer, about 200 tons in all. Tho Copper Apex, therefore, knows that its ore chutes are of a permanent per-manent character, arid tho deep tunnel coming iu under the present workings will reach the logical point early in the coming season. The Scottish Chief company is another an-other organization that is sending in a deep tunnel to tap ore bodies demonstrated demon-strated to exist above. The company has made several shipments of rich ore, the rock carrying as high as -40 per I cent lead and 40 ounces silver to the i ton. The deep tunnel is to be 1500 feet in length, and it. will gain a depth I on the vein of several hundred feet bo-low bo-low the upper workings. This work is being done by contract, and as much as 100 feet a month is the progress being made. The Iowa Copper company is driving a deep tunnel also, the company being in splendid shape to rush work during all the coming winter. This property has been productive of some extremely rich rock, some copper ore runninir as high as 40 per cent. The West End, under the personal direct ion of George Hall, is pushing dovelopmcnt work, seeking a fine depth on some of the most attractive surface enrichments one would waut to find. All this work will be due with results early iu 190S, and until then Scott Mill can be looked to for a continuous and energetic campaign cam-paign of exploratory activity.
