Show TWO HEH PARDOIED IT THE STATE BOARD Petit Larcenists in County Jaii Are Released From Durance Vile. Stephen. Fl. Lcctham and John I. Hammond, who are serving live months' sentences in the county jail for petit larceny were granted pardons by the State Hoard ol Pardons, which held its monthly meeting at the Slate prison. Several applications for pardon, parole and commutation were turned down. The board denied pardons petitioned for by Harry Montgomery, who is serving serv-ing a two-year sentence from San Juan county for adultery and by Carlo Chisal-berti. Chisal-berti. who is serving a two-year sentence sen-tence from Tooele county for burglary. Applications for commutations wore denied de-nied in the following cases: Umile Carson, Car-son, Salt Lake, county, grand larceny; Charles Chapman, Salt Lake county, burglary: Kugenc Bryant. Weber county, coun-ty, niirnlnrr. The board declined to grant a parole lo John D. Douglas, who is serving a twenty-five year sentence from Weber county for murder. He has been in prison since May 23, I SOS. Tho board took the ground that it had no authority to grant a parole in such a case. Douglas Doug-las was originally sentenced to life imprisonment, im-prisonment, but. "his sentence was commuted com-muted to Hyonty-fivo venra. The argument in Hothn's case was made at the December meeting. His friends aro making a hard struggle lo secure his release. The board denied applications for re-hcarings re-hcarings in several cases which it hud hitherto disposed of. |
